Normalize audio peaks, then check the result

Peak normalization applies a common gain to the whole recording. It does not automatically make each quiet and loud passage equally loud. A file with the same maximum peak as another file can still sound quieter overall.

Use gain and normalization deliberately

  1. Choose your file and wait for the waveform.
  2. Start with Boost amount at 100% and Normalize peak level enabled. At this setting with the limiter off, normalization targets a 96% sample peak.
  3. Preview, adjust cautiously, then export and listen to the download at a fixed playback volume.

Boost amount is applied after normalization. Turning it up can push samples into clipping when the limiter is off. The soft limiter shapes sample levels and can change the sound; it is not a transparent repair for distortion already in the source. Gain also raises existing noise.

Peak normalization vs loudness matching

This tool does not target an integrated LUFS value, automatically level speech within a recording or certify a true-peak delivery limit. Use the Loudness Analyzer to inspect a version, then follow your destination's requirements with an appropriate final check.

Read how sample peaks and LUFS differ and how to boost quiet audio without harsh clipping. Keep the original file and compare your exported copy before sharing it.

About This Tool

Adjust audio gain and normalize peak level before a local MP3 or WAV export.

Peak normalization scales the whole recording, then Boost amount applies further gain. The optional soft limiter shapes sample levels and can change the sound. This is not automatic speech leveling or target-LUFS normalization.

Practical tips

  • Start at 100% Boost amount and preview peak normalization before adding gain.
  • Avoid aggressive gain: without the limiter, samples above full scale are clipped.
  • Preview on headphones and speakers before export.

Common questions

Will boosting repair distorted audio?

No. It can raise level and control new clipping, but distortion already present in the source remains.

What does normalize do?

It scales the source so its highest sample peak is 96% before Boost amount and the optional limiter are applied. Those settings change the final peak. It does not level individual passages or target LUFS.

Where is the processed file created?

The browser processes and encodes the result locally on your device.
