Audio input and output formats

MP3 and WAV are useful starting points. Other inputs depend on the codec inside the file and your browser. Every supported input can be exported as MP3 or 16-bit PCM WAV; this tool does not export M4A, AAC, FLAC or Ogg.

Checks use Chromium, Firefox and WebKit on macOS, plus mobile Chromium and WebKit emulation. They cover one short stereo file per codec and both downloaded outputs, not every file or physical device. If your file will not open, try a current browser or a WAV/MP3 copy. Video extraction and streaming links are outside this tool's scope.

Convert WAV to MP3

  1. Choose your WAV file and wait for the waveform.
  2. Set Format to MP3 and choose a bitrate.
  3. Preview the source, select Export MP3, then download and listen to the copy.

MP3 uses lossy encoding. Compare the result with your source and use the MP3 bitrate guide to choose a listening copy. For more size controls, open the Audio Compressor.

Convert MP3 to WAV

  1. Choose your MP3 file and wait for decoding.
  2. Set Format to WAV; MP3 bitrate does not apply to WAV.
  3. Select Export WAV, then download and check the file in your next editor.

The WAV is uncompressed and can be larger. It cannot restore detail discarded by an earlier MP3 encode. Read the MP3 vs WAV guide before choosing a working or sharing format. Keep your original: the export does not preserve its metadata.

Choose a browser-supported input, preview the source and download a new MP3 or uncompressed PCM WAV copy. MP3 is re-encoded at the selected bitrate; WAV cannot recover detail already lost in a compressed source. Original metadata is not copied.

Practical tips

  • Use 128 or 192 kbps for general listening.
  • Choose WAV for the next editing step; keep the original source as well.
  • A different browser may support a source format your current browser cannot decode.

Common questions

Can I export AAC, OGG, M4A, or FLAC?

Not in the launch version. Those may work as inputs, but current output is MP3 or WAV only.

Does conversion reduce quality?

MP3 is lossy and depends on bitrate. WAV output is uncompressed, although it cannot restore quality already lost in the source.

Is the source sent to a conversion server?

No. Decoding and MP3/WAV creation run on your device in the current tool.
